Direct Mail Hand Enclosing operation since 1992

April 22nd, 2009 by admin

Whitney Woods was founded in 1992 as a specialist hand enclosing mailing house servicing businesses in Lancashire. Since then, our business has spread and diversified into many different areas but we are still a full-service mailing house with a good number of loyal clients for whom we supply a good, reliable service all year round. We mail out invitations, circulars, magazines, notices and all kinds of promotional mail in quantities from hundreds up to hundreds of thousands.

As a hand-fulfilment specialist, our workforce has the skills of manual dexterity and neatness. This is absolutely crucial to our operation as many of our customers call upon us for promotional direct mail fulfilment which often involves the weird and wonderful. Marketing agencies often call upon us to create a mailing pack for Business-to-Business marketing that will include all kinds of promotional paraphernalia from standard items such as pens and mouse mats to the more bizarre; for example, we were once called upon to mail out inflatable giraffes.

Making up packs can go beyond mailing services as we are also asked to create marketing kits which can involve a lot or re-packing and re-boxing. For example, the agency’s client might be a brewery and the promotion could be the launch of a new beer. We might typically be asked to create packs for a series of pub fun nights. This task would probably include taking delivery of imported good and goods from UK printers and then collating and re-packing to create new promo-kits containing t-shirts, baseball hats, pens, beer mats, posters  and so on destined for a regional promotion.

Our standard mailing services include all of the usual services that you would expect from a good mailing house. Typically, these services include laser printing address labels and letters; database cleaning and data deduplication; post coding from Royal Mail PAF data; adding missing post town and, of course, converting your data into Mailsort format to enable you to take advantage of the fantastic bulk mail discounts offered by Royal Mail.

A Brief History of Whitney Woods - From Print Finishing to Promotional Pop-ups and Interactive Mailers

April 14th, 2009 by admin

The company was formed in 1992 as a hand-enclosing mailing house with just one account – P&P plc – a Rossendale-based computer company. What we had to offer was staff with excellent project management skills and workers with a high degree of manual dexterity.  It wasn’t long before we started to offer our services to the local print trade and soon we earned a reputation as high quality hand-finishers.

Much of the work on offer from the print industry was of a promotional nature and so it followed that we should find a way into the business of manufacturing promotional and marketing pop-up products. The passage from one type of business into another has been a totally natural progression which has caused barely a ripple of change in the basic way that we work.

Following on from the manufacture of pop-ups and interactive mailers for the Business-to-Business market, it made perfect sense to manufacture the same type of product for the retail market which led to the formation of our greetings card division and also to our plans for the paper crafts market. Offering printed product supplies is simply a by-product of all these activities.

The basic job description of the workforce remains the same as it was in 1992 –the utilisation of a high degree of manual dexterity working with paper and card to create something new. It’s a description that could be applied to many different services and manufacturing functions so who knows where it might lead to next? One thing is for sure; with such adaptability, the working week is never dull as there is a great deal of variety in the jobs that we handle from one hour to the next.

How to attract visitors and exhibitors to Exhibitions and Events

October 18th, 2008 by admin

Sophisticated cardboard engineering techniques were put to good use when the first pop-up house was designed as the eye-catching product has grown in popularity over the years to become a regular inclusion in advertising and marketing campaigns. Whilst the recent slump in the housing market has had a drastic effect on the house building and construction industries and also on mortgage companies it has not affected the production of pop-up houses. It seems that companies who have already committed to events, exhibitions and trade shows are putting in extra effort to attract visitors and exhibitors alike and the promotional product that fits the bill is the pop-up house.

The pop-up house makes an excellent high-impact event invitation. It is an extremely versatile shape lending itself to being designed as a house, a shop, a bank, a restaurant, pub, a greenhouse, a cabin - in fact any building with a pitched roof. Its automatic pop-up action is a guarantee that the product is noticed. Customers will also “bounce” it a lot, making it an extremely interactive and memorable events invitation indeed.

Pop-up houses also make excellent desktop pen holders and you only need to use one roof panel in order to make the transformation! We are able supply the house with 4 holes in one roof panel - or 4 holes in both roof panels if you prefer, which makes the change from pop-up house to pop-up pen holder whilst all the time acting as a high impact event invitation.

The product is not confined to use as an invitation as it has great potential to convey product information. It has a quite unique shape and its automatic pop-up action grabs attention and draws focus to the message printed on the product. This makes the pop-up house an ideal vehicle for carrying product information. This, in turn, means that the pop-up house is an excellent choice as publicity material for a product launch or as an entertaining and informative hand out at an event or exhibition. The fact that it comes in a neat, compact but chunky custom printed pack only adds to the appeal of the pop-up house and to its success as an events publicity product. It is no surprise that the pop-up house has been included in our special collection of marketing and publicity materials for events and exhibitions - The Events Emporium.

The automatic pop-up house is supplied in different sizes and is usually supplied compressed in its own custom-printed mailing pack ready for sending out to your target audience. We are also a mailing house and we are able to back up our print and manufacturing services with a mailing service in order to supply a worry-free solution to event publicity headaches.
